General Federation of Women’s Clubs

NWI Women's Club

The General Federation of Women’s Clubs (GFWC) is a nonprofit organization that brings together local women’s clubs in a collective effort to strengthen communities and enhance the lives of others through volunteer service.

The NWI Women's Club provides members with an opportunity to make a difference in our community, our nation, and the world both through service and by raising funds for charitable organizations. Each year, we hold several signature events in addition to the work we do each month with various local charities.

General Federation of Women’s Clubs

GFWC is one of the world’s largest and oldest nonpartisan, nondenominational women’s volunteer service organizations.

With more than 60,000 members in affiliated clubs in every state, the District of Columbia, and more than 20 countries, GFWC members are community leaders who work locally to create global change by advocating for women, children, and families on issues such as domestic violence and sexual assault, food insecurity/hunger, and promoting healthy lifestyles. GFWC also supports the arts, works to preserve natural resources, advances education, encourages civic involvement, and works toward world peace and understanding.

GFWC Northwest Indiana Women's Club

Founded in 1960, the GFWC NWI Women’s Club—formerly the St. John Women’s Club—has proudly served Northwest Indiana for more than six decades. Based in the Tri-Town area of Lake County, we bring women together to strengthen our communities through meaningful volunteer service, friendship, and a shared commitment to making a difference.

Who We Are

GFWC NWI Women’s Club brings women together to strengthen our community and enhance the lives of others through volunteer service. As proud members of the General Federation of Women's Clubs, we are part of a global network of women united by a shared commitment to service, leadership, and meaningful impact.

Through hands-on projects, fundraising efforts, and monthly service opportunities, our members make a difference locally while contributing to a broader mission that reaches beyond Northwest Indiana. Each year, we host signature events and support a wide range of charitable organizations that reflect the needs of our communities.

Just as important as the work we do is the experience of doing it together. Membership offers the opportunity to build confidence, develop new skills, form lasting friendships, and find purpose through service. Whether you have a little time to give or are looking to deepen your involvement, you’ll find a welcoming place here.

Our club is made up of women of diverse ages, backgrounds, and life experiences from St. John, Schererville, and neighboring communities—all connected by a common purpose: to serve, to support one another, and to live the volunteer spirit together.

What We Do

At GFWC NWI Women’s Club, we turn compassion into action. Our members actively support Northwest Indiana through hands-on volunteer service, fundraising efforts, and community partnerships that address real needs close to home.

Throughout the year, we lead and participate in projects that support education, health and wellness, civic engagement, and community care. From organizing signature fundraising events to serving meals, creating comfort items for those in need, and supporting local families and nonprofits, our work reflects the belief that meaningful change begins at the local level.

We proudly support initiatives such as breast cancer awareness and patient care, college scholarships for local students, food insecurity relief, support for veterans and service members, advocacy for women and children, and assistance for families experiencing hardship. Our projects range from large community events to small acts of kindness—each one guided by the needs of our neighbors.

What makes our work special is how we do it: together. Members choose projects that fit their interests, schedules, and passions, allowing everyone to contribute in ways that are meaningful and manageable. Whether you enjoy hands-on volunteering, event planning, creative projects, or behind-the-scenes support, there is a place for you to serve.

Through our collective efforts, we live the volunteer spirit—strengthening our communities, building lasting connections, and making a difference one project at a time.
